(Dunya News) – For 25-year-old Fatima Habib, the sudden death of her father meant quitting education and working to make ends meet for her 7 younger siblings and an ailing mother.

Running a roadside dhaaba offering pakoray and samosay, Habib who had once aspired to complete her education, is now dedicated towards earning a livelihood for her family who are completely dependent on her.

Wrapped in a chaadar, Habib leaves her home every morning on a motorcycle to head towards her dhaaba where she offers savoury snacks.

“Instead of begging for alms, one should be able to face the situation – no matter how bad,” she says.

“I had learned to ride a bike 2 years ago in the hopes of being able to go to college on my own. Who knew it would one day become my need,” she says while talking about riding a two-wheeler, something which is in the process of gaining acceptability in the Pakistani society.

For now, Habib is concerned about her younger siblings. She hopes the government would assist her in the provision of a motorcycle that would allow her to move around easily. “I earn on my own and I am not dependent on anyone,” she says resolutely.

Through hard work and resolve, many challenges can be overcome. And while this sounds easier said than done, 25-year-old Fatima Habib is a living example of a young woman braving all storms on her own.
